Our Background
The Texas Elite Track and Field was founded in 1973 by Dave Jantzen and Joyce Morgan who were both runners for fitness. The club was initially called the Houston Mennonite Track Club and was started for girls only, however a few years later when female athletics were introduced into the public school athletic programs, boys were included as well.
For the first 18 years the club practiced on the property owned by the Houston Mennonite Church, where Dave had developed the facilities for all track and field events. The club grew rapidly until the early 1980’s, when the club had over 200 members.
In 1991 the club was moved to Stratford high school where Dave was the head track coach, and then several years later changed the name of the club to The Spring Branch/Memorial Track Club. In 2003 Dave retired from public school teaching at Stratford High School where the club was known as The Spring Branch/ Memorial Track Club. In that same year Dave began working at a private school known as Houston Christian High School. The club's practice site was relocated to the Houston Christian high school campus.

In 2021, the club name changed to Texas Elite Track and Field. Dave has since retired from coaching, both at the high school and club levels, and the current head coach is Margaret Glover. The club is currently located at St. Thomas High School.
